Basketball 3×3
3×3 basketball is an adaptation of basketball. It is promoted by FIBA and it has already been played in official international competitions, such as the Youth Olympic Games.
Although the discipline already existed beforehand, FIBA regulated it and international championships were created for it.
It was excepted from the international organization that the sport had been present in the Olympic Games by 2034, however it was finally included for the 2020 edition.
Rules for the Game
General
The sport is played on an 11-meter wide and 15-meter long court, which is equivalent to dividing the normal basketball court in two. The court has a single ring and both teams alternate between attack and defense, the one in possession of the ball is the one who attacks and the other defends. Each team has three players on the field (hence the name of the discipline) and they can have a substitute on the bench, that is, teams are made up of four components.
The court should have a three-point line, just like in traditional basketball.
Match (The matches)
The game begins with a draw to determine which team is the attacker and the defender, when the defending team recovers the ball it changes to attacker.
Matches last 10 minutes, and the clock stops each time the ball «is dead» or there was a foul.
Match winner
The first team to score 21 points or more wins the game if this has happened before 10 minutes, however, if after ten minutes no team has exceeded that mark, the one with the highest score wins. In the event of a tie after ten minutes, there will be one minute of rest and then an additional time will be played, which will last until a team first scores 2 points.
Fouls
Fouls are similar to basketball, but numbers change about when a team «goes into a foul.» Unlike ordinary basketball, a team foul is taken into account after committing seven infractions, and after nine of these, the other ones will be considered «technical fouls.» Unlike normal basketball, this discipline does not keep track of personal infractions.
For each foul within the arc, the possibility of taking a free kick will be given to the team that received it. For each foul outside the arc, two free kicks will be given.
Once the six fouls have been exceeded, two free kicks will be awarded, regardless of the type of foul committed, and after ten fouls, two free kicks and possession of the ball are granted.
Putting the ball in play
When a goal is scored, the team that received it will put the ball in play having to make a pass or touch. In the event that the goal is missed and if the ball is received by the defending team, it must be carried outside the arc in order to start playing the ball.
Changes
They will be performed when the ball is «dead».
